Welcome to Swish and Flick
Here are some tips to help you get started!
1. Just explore the board a bit and stop in and say hello! You can post a welcome message in the Introductions Thread or stop into the chatbox and say hello! We'd love to meet you!
2. Make sure you visit the Forum Rules. Read over the rules carefully and ask if you have any questions. It is VERY important to note that we play on a continuous timeline, and because of that your character can only be in ONE place at a time.
Notes (Sept 2, 2008): We are still on a continuous time line, but a few changes have been made. Please read Forum Updates to read about this change.
3. Once you feel ready, take a good look at the Characters and Registration board for how to actually dive in and join us!
There are many great characters available on the Character List/Application Thread. You can stop in and choose one today! Please read the updates at the top of the thread before you apply.
If you're stuck or would like some advice and tips for choosing and applying for a character, visit the Applicatio n Help Thread.
4. Once you have submitted your application, one of the admins will look it over and either offer you some suggestions or accept your character, at which time you will then be free to join in the RPing.
Tips for Character Creation and Getting Started with Your First Roleplay on Swish and Flick
Character Creation -- You can choose from some of the more well-known characters of the Marauder's era or choose a somewhat lesser known character. There are advantages to both options!
*Choosing a more well-known character means there will be information out there on the web, as well as from JKR's books to guide you in some character creation and development. *Choosing a lesser known character means you really get the chance to make him or her into the person you want them to be.
Either way, it's how you play the character that makes them come alive!
--Think about how your character can really get involved in the story. A shy, book-loving character might be fine, but only if he or she is still willing and able to really get out there and interact with the characters around.
--Aim instead for someone who WILL be able to interact, and not just interact within house. The characters on Swish and Flick mix and mingle just like they would at any regular school.
--It's also important to remember that we are ALL human, and the flaws in our character are what make us who we are. Think about what it is that makes your character more human and play up those traits.
--Be assertive and don't be afraid to put your character out there. Start some threads, talk to the other characters, even if you don't know what will happen. The fun and excitement of Role-playing is wondering what will happen next!!!
--If you have questions, please feel free to PM any of the Admins (you can click on their pictures in the sidebar to go right to the PM screen!) You can also post questions here in this forum or in the questions forum and one of us will get back to you!
Any questions, comments or suggestions? Don't hesitate on clicking our pictures and PM'ing any one of us. :D
