 RULES [Updated May 11, 2008]
« Thread Started on Nov 1, 2007, 8:30pm »

I know there seem to be alot of rules, but they are all here for a reason. Read through them one by one and please abide by each one. Those that violate any of the rules below will be warned twice (2) before being removed from the board.

1. You can not speak, act or think for another character. That means for example, if Lily asks Sirius a question. Lily can not say what Sirius' answer was. She'll have to wait until Sirius responds.

2. Please write in complete sentences. This means use proper grammar and spelling. This isn't kindegarten people.

3. The more detail the better. Everyone needs to know exactly what your character is thinking, doing, saying etc. They need to know exactly where your character is at all times. Be clear with your writing.

4. No God-modding. This means don't tell another player how to play the game, what they should post and how to post it. That's the admin's job. If you have a problem with the way another person is behaving please PM an admin and we will handle it in a timely fashion.

5. No spamming. This means no one word or one line post. Please don't posts "Okays" or "Thank you" in a post by themselves. Posts like these will be deleted and you will be warned.

6. Write in 3rd person (he, she)

7. Stay in character at all times. If you must say something out of character place ooc//Text// around your out of character words.

8. Keep all OOC drama out of the roleplay. If you have beef with someone I don't want to know about it in the roleplay. PM them, say it in the off-topic section of the Quidditch Pitch. Say it anywhere but here.

10. Absolutely no "Net-speak" allowed in posts. Under no circumstances will "text-speak" or "net-speak" be allowed in any post in this rpg. This means that phrases like "How r u?" or substituting numbers for words, such as "2" for "to" will not be allowed. This will be closely monitored by the Administrators and Moderators of this rpg. You may however, use as much chat-speak as you want in the chat-box below the forum.

11. All-knowing characters are NOT allowed. Do not attempt to have you character be a part of every interesting thing that happens inside or outside of the school. Do not have your character somehow always know everything all the time. This is not believable and will only lead to less interaction for your characters. Unless your character has a good explanation for being present or for knowing the information, the admins/mods will remove these types of
posts from the board.

12. Character Death. A character cannot be irreversibly maimed or killed without the author's permission. These types of plots can be worked on, but the owners and/or moderators need to
know about it in advance so posts aren't mistakenly removed.

13. You are only allowed 2 characters. Request for more will be denied. If you would like to have another character you must give a good reason why and you must submit another student application for the new student. If you have not been an active writer for the character you already have, your request for a 2nd will be denied immediately.

14. Parents and relatives of full-time student should
be treated as side characters. They should not be involved in major plots, but can offer advice and can be written from their POV. However, they cannot tag other characters nor can they be tagged. You can not choose to play a parent of relative as a second character.

15. Sensitive subject matter should be limited at best within game posts. Under no circumstances will the subjects of rape, sexual abuse or molestation, or physical child abuse be permitted. We see enough of these horrors in real life, we don't need to role play them as well. Any author who posts with any of these topics will be put on immediate moderation

16. Absentee

If you do not update for two weeks without notifying an admin of your absence before hand in the absentee board, you will be replaced. If you have notified us you need not worry about this. If you haven't, you may lose your character.

17. I've begun to realize that several members are not reading all the post on this forum. I will not be enforcing that rule because I know people have lives and they can't read everything written. That said, I would either glance through the post or check the current plot thread. It may not always be updated so PLEASE do not rely on it alone. You will miss several important factors.

It's okay to be focused on your own character alone, but you have to realize that stories intermingle. You can't ride blind forever.

Most importantly:

September 2, 2008: This rule has been updated. Go Here for new information.

When you begin roleplaying, your character can only be in one place at a time. Your must finish the topic you've started before you can move somewhere else inside the school.

That being said, do not tag just one person for a personal conversation. Everyone needs to be given the opportunity to join in a conversation with you if their character is near.

When you start a thread give other members at least 2 days to reply before moving your character somewhere else. I know some of you are impatient, but everyone isn't online at the same time. Others should be given the opportunity to interact with your character if he/she wishes.

If there is someone in particular that you would like to join you, simply PM that person or leave a message in the cbox if that person is online at the time. Give said person time to finish whatever it is they were doing before giving up on the thread.

When you've finished your thread (I.e The conversation, event is done,) please have the person that started the thread place FINISHED in the subject line of the first post. Simply modify the first post. Do not change the name of the topic, just tag FINISHED at the end.

I.e Remus' day out [FINISHED]

Do not proclaim your thread finished until everyone involved says they are finished or if the thread hasn't been active for a few days.

The admins will try to keep the current plot updated, but with so much being written it may not be possible. It is your job to update the current plot threads with all major events that have happened to your character. Only do this if an admin hasn't already.

Keep this brief. There is no need to tell everything that was said. The point of this thread is to give other members or new members an idea of what happened to your character. Only post things relevant to the plot.

I.e We don't need to know your character brushed their hair. But if that brush was snatched away by a enemy an used to attack your member, we do need to know that! :)

It's mandatory that all members read everything written. Don't rely on the current plot thread alone. You'll only get the glossed over version.

Reasoning behind the above rule:

Have you ever been a member of a huge RP where everyone had a character in 10 different threads? I have and to be honest I never knew who was in what storyline, who was where, what was going on. When you know where every character is, who's dating whom, the why behind it, it pulls you into the plot, makes you want to know how their story will turn out.

Essentially, this RP set-up is to encourage awareness of the plot as it progresses... so that students can actually RP the passing days, and weeks, and even months.

It may not move the plot as quickly as other rps, but when it all comes down to it, your character's story will be known by everyone in the rp and you'll feel better knowing that everything you write is being read by everyone and that they all understand all the time and effort you've put into your character. :)
